Aluminium specialist, Capral, has the biggest selection of extruded shapes in various transport-specific alloys as well sheet and plate products in stock in national distribution centres throughout the country.
Extrusions can be manufactured – with fast lead times – up to 17 metres in length and 400mm CCD on Australia’s largest 12” press, while sheet and plate products are carried ex stock up to 2.2 metres wide and 12.8 metres long.
While Capral sells to customers who build Performance-Based Standards trailers, tippers, refrigerated vans, specialised vehicles, buses and ute bodies, it capitalises on its diverse capabilities to cater for just about any industrial client, leveraging its router cutting and marking solutions, seven-axis state-of-the-art robotic machining centre, punching, slotting, precision cutting and CNC machining.
All extrusions manufactured by Capral are produced to the chemical composition, mechanical property and dimensional tolerances in AS/NZS 1866:1997. Capral is accredited to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2015 and has an ISO/IEC 17025 NATA accredited mechanical testing laboratory.
Vawdrey Australia, the largest independent trailer manufacturer in the country, has specified Capral Aluminium’s sheet metal materials for the past eight or so years.
Director Paul Vawdrey says his purchasing team works closely with Capral to manage ‘just-in-time’ delivery of materials custom made for various projects.
“This can include machining of extruded profiles, routing and polishing,” he says. “Capral do not let us down with delivery and do what is necessary to ensure we have the right materials when required.”
More than 75 per cent of Vawdrey trailers, according to Paul, are fitted with some form of Capral product. “Roof rails, roof bows, aluminium floors, outer capping rails, the list goes on,” he says – explaining that the partnership between Capral and Vawdrey is solid and dependable. “Brad Ryan from Capral does a great job of managing our account and ensuring we have our product on time.”
As a private, Australian owned and operated business, Paul supports Australian manufacturing – wherever possible, only using locally manufactured materials.
“Capral’s Campbellfield mill is ideally situated to easily supply materials to suit our Melbourne based manufacturing operations,” he says.
“Capral’s quality system ensures we receive only the best Australian made product and provide all the necessary supporting documentation to validate the quality of their material.
“The Capral national footprint allows Vawdrey Australia to easily source materials when required for each of our local and interstate service and repairs workshops. Capral are not the cheapest aluminium supplier on the market but their ability to react quickly and deliver a quality product means they are good value.”
As Australia’s largest manufacturer and distributor of aluminium products for the road transport industry, Capral Aluminium has the infrastructure and the technical expertise to accommodate the road transport industry’s diverse requirements.
